OUR VISION A community where children are inspired to learn, encouraged to explore, and empowered to achieve their fullest potential.
Our Mission…
We provide high-quality, comprehensive early childhood education programs and support services to empower children and their families, regardless of their financial circumstances.
A History…
In 1973, Main Street was founded to serve children, ages 2 to 5, from predominantly low-income families.
Each year, we serve 150 children – 125 preschool students (ages 2 to 5) and 25 elementary school students (ages 6 to 10) – who receive critical early learning services that ensure they are prepared for success in kindergarten and help their parents to maintain full-time employment.
Highlights…
Programs that are both high-quality and affordable – such as Main Street – are scarce.
We celebrate our broad diversity daily and practice inclusion through a commitment to strive to meet the needs of each and every child. The result is a community of BELONGING, where all feel seen, heard,
listened to, respected and valued.

We are Trusted & Accredited
Main Street is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), a distinction held by less than 10 percent of childcare centers nationwide. Main Street is featured in the Catalogue for Philanthropy as “one of the best small charities in the Greater Washington region.” We participate in the Virginia Preschool Initiative and are part of the Combined Federal (#31872) campaign.
