Hearing the music in our halls?

This spring, Main Street began a new Kindermusik curriculum in our preschool classrooms!

Many studies have shown the therapeutic effects of music, particularly on young children. Music has been proven to reduce mental and physical pain by up to 50% (https://www.kindermusik.com/mindsonmusic/the-therapeutic-effects-of-music/). Music has also been shown to serve as a type of “resource replacement” for emotional or psychological resources that have been depleted by trauma and stress (https://www.edimprovement.org/post/music-therapy-traumatized-children).  Further, shared music experiences can increase many skill areas including school-readiness, social skills, literacy, and numeracy goals (https://www.kindermusik.com/mindsonmusic/importance-of-shared-musical-experiences-with-your-child/).

Main Street is using instruments, visuals, books, songs, and more to help our children with self-regulation, boost literacy and numeracy skills, and support the growth of positive experiences to help mitigate the effects of the early trauma. And we’ll be bringing the music beyond the classroom by providing families with resources to explore emotions and togetherness as a family.

We’re excited to be adding this special musical component to the day-to-day at Main Street!
